Our teams suggestions for a lovely Whitsun walk!

Pen Y Fan

Probably one of the more popular walks in Wales! This is Claire’s personal fave, one that she’s done many times before. Pen Y Fan has parking available at the bottom and there’s usually a burger van at the that you can grab a coffee and a burger at after your work out!

Claire says “Be prepared for all weathers… it can be sunny at the bottom and snow at the top… so layers are important.. plus a snack and drink to enjoy when you finally reach the top!”.

Crowds are to be expected when it’s a nice day, so be prepared to queue at the top if you do want a picture at the summit!

Cwmcarn Forest Drive

Just a 10-minute drive from Junction 28 of the M4, you can head for the hills and experience the spectacular Cwmcarn Forest. This is Abbey’s favourite walk, where she takes her dog Percy regularly.

Abbey enjoys it as she says “The views are incredible, you can make this walk as long or as short as you like. But when the hubby and I take our Percy boy up there, we do the full walk which takes about 3 hours. My favourite part is walking through the wooded area and watching the mountain bikers come down the bike tracks, they are fearless!”

Twmbarlwm

Sera’s and Mike’s personal favourite walk is Twmbarlwm - near Risca!  Once you enter the forest you then walk a steep path that will take you up to the top of the Iron Age hillfort of Twmbarlwm. From the top there are stunning views, over Cardiff Bay to the south and the Brecon Beacons to the north.

Sera says she loves walking up Twmbarlwm because “the views and hiking trail are amazing and so easy to follow! Also, the sunrises/sunsets are unreal!

Mike likes to take his pooch Oakley for a stroll around Twmbarlwm as it’s such  a lovely route, with lots of space for Oakley to roam!

Ieuan suggests a stroll from Bracelet Bay to Caswell Bay… highlights include being able to watch the seals or just the sound of the waves crashing off the rocks!

Whatever you decide to do this half term - we hope you have a fabulous time and please catch up with us after the Whitsun break!
